BP Lead Replacement Petrol (also called LRP) has been designed to permit cars that used Leaded petrol to change to a lead free fuel. BP was the first company to introduce this more environmentally friendly fuel in Queensland, South Australia and the Northern Territory. Engine performance will be similar to Leaded petrol but, consistent with BP's commitment to the environment, it is refined to contain no lead and lower benzene and sulphur. Additional additives have been included to protect parts of the engine that are normally protected by the lead such as exhaust valve seats.
BP's LRP is designed to be used in all vehicles made before 1986 including vintage and classic cars without the need for additional additive protection. LRP has the same octane rating as Super (96), the main difference is that being lead-free LRP produces cleaner exhaust emissions. Some pre-1986 vehicles can run on Regular Unleaded fuel without needing valve seat protection additives or modifications. It is important that BP LRP is not used in vehicles that are designed to run on unleaded fuel.
